Things to do in Tacoma

As we’ve mentioned before, Tacoma has no shortage of unique places to visit. Below are some of the more popular attractions that long-time residents and newcomers should definitely check out.

Ruston Way Waterfront

An absolute must-see. Stunning views of the Puget Sound and Commencement bay are complemented by a ridiculously photogenic version of Mt Rainier when conditions are just right. Some of Tacoma’s best dining options are down here as well (Happy Hour on the deck at Duke’s on a sunny day – yes, please) and the various restaurants, mostly specializing in seafood, along this waterfront are well worth your time.

Add a beautiful two-mile stretch of walkways and parks and you can easily see why this is a hub for all of Tacoma when the weather gets nice.

Museum Of Glass

You can read all about the origins of this iconic Tacoma landmark here. One of the coolest features is the Hot Shop, where you can witness live glassmaking!

Point Defiance Park and Zoo

Some pretty impressive exhibits for being a smaller zoo. Tigers, polar bears, elephants… the family can see all the staples of a great zoo without breaking the bank. See our full write-up on this here.

LeMay America’s Car Museum

An impressive showcase of Harold and Nancy LeMay’s car collection. Literally thousands of cars were stored around western Washington at various LeMay residences. The museum now rotates exhibits every so often just to try to get a decent sampling of these showcased throughout the year. One of the best new attractions in Tacoma and well worth a visit.
